Fourth of July fun is on the way in Abilene!

The Fourth brings to mind barbecues, family get-togethers and celebrating America’s independence. This year, make plans to take your family and friends out to one of the many events happening around the Big Country.

Take a short drive out to Buffalo Gap Historic Village on Monday and celebrate an Old Fashioned Fourth! The parade lines up at 9 a.m. on Monday at Shades of Hope and ends at the Village. Awards will be given for the most patriotic entry to the parade. Master of Ceremonies, Retired Colonel, Alan Huffines will read the Declaration of Independence and the states in the order they joined the Union. Children will also have the opportunity to ring the church bell in honor of each state. Admission to the Buffalo Gap Historic Village will be free all day. Info: 325-572-3365.

Join Taylor Electric Cooperative, WesTex Connect and Cumulus Radio for the “4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” on Monday in Nelson Park from 6-11 p.m. Fireworks begin at dusk. This event is free to the public. However, event coordinators are offering a VIP Parking Bundle for $100. This includes: Four tickets to the Abilene Zoo, four meals catered by Sharon’s BBQ and reserved parking for the fireworks show. Don’t forget to wear red, white and blue! Info: 325-673-1930.

Also on Monday, the Abilene Community Band concert and neighborhood picnic will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of the Heavenly Rest on S. 6th and Meander.

Out in Clyde, Texas – the “Festival By The Lake” will take place on Friday and Saturday. There will be lots of live music: on Friday, Hunters & Gatherers will play at 5 p.m. The Donnie Evetts Band will take the stage at 7 p.m. and Callahan Divide will be at 9 p.m. The fireworks are sponsored by Gray Electric. On Saturday, there will also be family games, food and merchandise vendors available. At noon, Kirk House Band will perform, Last Not Lost will be at 2 p.m., Callahan Divide at 4 p.m., the Dave Hobbs Band at 6 p.m. and Bo McDowell at 9 p.m. Fireworks are sponsored by the City of Clyde. For more information, call 325-893-4370.
