The “Friends of the Abilene Public Library Annual Book Sale” returns to the Abilene Civic Center this Thursday through Sunday. This gigantic annual book sale includes not only books, but DVDs, videotapes, cassette tapes, CDs, records and more. Members can preview the sale from 5 pm to 8 pm Thursday evening. Friday the sale opens to the public from 10 am to 8 pm and carries over from 10 am to 6 pm Saturday and 1 pm to 4 pm Sunday and admission is free. Spend an evening with Lynda Johnson Robb and the National Center for Children’s Literature Friday evening. This dinner and fundraiser, honoring the first child of late President Lyndon B. Johnson and his wife “Lady Bird Johnson”, will showcase the original artwork of preliminary crayon drawings and final pen-and-ink line art from the iconic book, “The Lorax!” The drawings are on loan from the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in Austin, Texas and will be part of the Children’s Art and Literacy Festival June 14-17, featuring the works of Dr. Seuss. “We’re going to need a bigger boat, er, theatre…” Enjoy the Steven Spielberg classic summer blockbuster “Jaws” at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Abilene for their Classic Film series about the infamous insatiable shark that terrorizes an island. This Saturday at 10 am, the NCCIL will host Caldecot award winning artists Ed Emberley for their Chalk Talk series. Emberley, is the illustrator and author of over 80 books, including the bestselling “Go Away,” “Big Green Monster!” and the insanely popular “Drawing Book” series. The Texas High School Rodeo Association State Finals will be in Abilene, deep in the heart of Texas, this weekend. The THSRA provided premier rodeo events all throughout the year.
