The Center for Contemporary Arts Artwalk will once again take over downtown Abilene tonight for a “Stay-Cation” themed event. Now this might be my favorite theme yet: I can think of a million reasons to stay and play in Abilene.  As a newcomer to the city, see why attractions like Frontier Texas!, the Grace Museum, the 12th Armored Museum and more are so vital to our community.  And for those of you who have been around awhile? Come remember why you love our city and explore with a fresh set of eyes. For almost the past 20 years, Artwalk has become a beloved Abilene staple to the downtown scene. Come, stay and play!

The Paramount Classic Film Series will show Director Joel Shumacher’s 2004 “Phantom of the Opera.” See Gerard Butler as the reclusive and disfigured genius who roams beneath the Paris Opera as he takes the beautiful budding star Christine, played by the lovely Emmy Rossum, under his wing. Cost is $6 for adults, $5 for students, seniors, military and children. Show times are 7:30 Friday and Saturday night and 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

I’m very excited the Chautaugua Learning Series topic this week at the Buffalo Gap Historic Village. Growing up in AISD, I was blessed to have a lot of amazing teachers. One of those is the speaker for this month’s series: Jay Moore. He taught me honors Geography back in the day and this week will teach us all: “What Abilene & Buffalo Gap Have Taught Me.” As his former pupil I can tell you the man knows a lot, so get ready to learn. The lecture starts at 11 am and runs to 12:30 pm. Admission is free. Call 325-572-3365 with any questions.

Take your loved out to the ball game the 14th and 15th to cheer on the Abilene Prairie Dogs at Walt Driggers Field as they take on the Fort Worth Cats. The season is winding down and you don’t want to miss our own North American Baseball League team at its best. Game time starts at 7:05 pm and cost is $5-$8 a person. Call 325-437-6555 for ticket information.
