Mark your calendars for the 24th Annual City Sidewalks on November 27, 2012.

City Sidewalks is the Abilene Downtown Association’s Christmas open house. It’s our gift to the city of Abilene and is sure to get you in the holiday spirit. This year’s theme is “Silver Bells” one of my favorite Christmas songs.

Highlights of the event include:

  • Entertainment throughout downtown beginning at 5:30 p.m. It is always hard to pick which group I want to hear each year. This year I am planning on being entertained by the Celebration Singers who perform after the parade at First Financial Bank, 400 Pine St. Other entertainment is being provided by Abilene Independent School District student choirs and bands, the Charlie Brown Band, Abilene Community Band, Abilene Memory Men and the Wylie Jr. High Jazz Band.
  • Free goodies and activities are being offered at many shops, restaurants and museums. My personal favorite is the free hot popcorn in front of United Way on Cypress St.
  • The KTXS Christmas Lights Parade starts at 6:30 p.m. I like to pick my favorite float and make sure I call and tell the group what a great job they did with their lights and decorations.
  • The evening continues with more shopping and dining until the big finale. The Community Tree Lighting in the foyer of the Abilene Civic Center.

To plan your evening, visit to view and print the complete list of restaurants, entertainment and shopping available from 5 to 8:30 p.m. that evening.

Hope to see you there!
