Enjoy family fun at the Grace Museum in Abilene, Texas!

Stop by the Grace Museum with your lunch each Wednesday from 11 am to 1 pm to dine in their newly renovated courtyard. The space is even more beautiful and will make a perfect backdrop for fine, fun dining. In addition, the Grace welcomes you to tour the exhibits as their guest. Bring along the kiddos or friends to see some of the following exhibits that are now on display:

The “Suitable Subjects” exhibit gets its title from the once widely accepted idea that still life paintings were one of the few acceptable or suitable subjects for works of art for women artists to paint.  This exhibition explores how contemporary artists have embraced this time honored academic practice to make it their own with complex works of art symbolizing their own personal homage to this historic practice.

Texas artist, Anne C. Weary, is known for her meticulously drawn, detailed, exquisite landscapes that portray her love and protective vigor for the natural world and unspoiled places. “The World of Anne C. Weary” exhibit contains some of her best work that is photographic in appearance, with drawings in graphite, charcoal or conte. The details in these drawings can take up to two months to complete.

Finally, the “Danville Chadbourne: West Texas Triangle” exhibit show off Chadbourne’s body of work that is primarily sculptures in clay and wood in both two and three dimensional formats. His complex body of work is unified by a primal iconography and pieces with an artifact-like quality. This exhibit is part of the West Texas Triangle consortium of museums who have a commitment to promote this region of Texas as an artistically rich area by collaborating on an annual collective exhibition. Chadbourne’s exhibit marks the 7th annual exhibition with aspects of his work exhibited across five museums including Abilene’s Grace Museum. See the other exhibits at The Old Jail Art Center in Albany, the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, The Ellen Noel Art Museum in Odessa and the Museum of the Southwest in Midland.
